Active Coast’s exciting programme of activities this Easter

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Active Coast team have put together a varied programme of activities at several coastal locations for the Easter holidays.

Active Coast is a popular programme for residents and visitors to explore, join in and enjoy life on the East Yorkshire coast. The programme this Easter will offer fun and creative activities on the beach; adapted cycling; historic coastal walks; sand and stone art workshops; coastal explorers; and much more!

Adam Swann, Sport & Active Communities Officer at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “We’re so excited for the return of Active Coast this Easter, and once again, this is a great programme, with something for everybody!”

The Active Coast programme includes:

Beach Multi Sports Sessions

Join the Active Coast team and take part in a wide range of activities such as Beach Cricket, Football, Dodgeball and Tennis. This session is suitable for children 6+. Booking essential.

3rd April: Withernsea Pier Towers, 10-12pm and 1-3pm

14th April: Hornsea beach (near Trans Pennine Trail monument), 10-12pm and 1-3pm

Calming, Play and Create Sessions

A calming and creative session that will guide participants through the basics of mindfulness in creative ways. Move your body and stretch before creating some nature inspired sand and stone art. Sound bowl instruments will accompany the last part of the session where families can learn to play them alongside the sound of nature. This session is suitable for children age 5+. Booking essential.

4th April: Hornsea beach (in front of Morrow Avenue), 1-2pm and 2-3pm

11th April: Bridlington South Cliff Beach (in front of chalets), 1-2pm and 2-3pm

Coastal Explorers Session

Join the Active Coast team for an adventure with our Coastal Explorers session at Danes Dyke. Participants will develop their bushcraft skills by taking part in activities such as fire lighting, den building and survival skills. This session is suitable for children age 5+. Booking essential.

5th April: Danes Dyke Nature Reserve, 10-12pm and 1-3pm

Dance Session

A fun-filled dance session that allows participants to come and express themselves through learning and developing their dance skills. This session is suitable for children age 5+. Booking essential.

6th April: Humber Bridge Country Park (second grassy meadow), 1-2pm and 2-3pm

13th April: Withernsea Pier Towers, 2-3pm and 3-4pm

Sand and Stone Art with James Brunt

Come along and join the extremely talented artist James Brunt and try your hand at stone stacking, sand drawing and beach art. Families of all ages welcome. Just turn up on the day.

8th April: Bridlington North Beach (in front of the fish and chip shop and chalets), 10am-3pm

9th April: Hornsea Beach (near Trans Pennine Trail monument), 10am-3pm

Coastal Explorers Past and Present Walk

Join us for an educational and historic coastal walk with Richard Myerscough, a local historian and geologist from the area. The walk will start at Sewerby and head towards to Danes Dyke where the group will focus on the coastline now to how its changed from 1700s. This session is suitable for children age 8+. Booking essential.

12th April: Sewerby Hall and Gardens car park, 1-3:30pm

All Ride Launch

The All Ride adapted cycle scheme in Bridlington will return for 2023. Each session will be a chance to cycle along the North Promenade in Bridlington on a specially adapted bike, which are designed for those with additional needs and mobility issues. This session is suitable for children age 6+.

14th April: Bridlington All Ride Hut (below East Riding Leisure), 10-3pm.
